Dracunculiasis eradication: Global surveillance summary, 2016
In calendar 2016, guinea worm transmission was confirmed in three African countries, including Chad, where canine transmission continues. The continuing military conflict in South Sudan is a challenge to dracunculiasis elimination and to other public health programs.
Transmission in Gambella, close to South Sudan, poses potential problems of cross-border transmission.
